Carve the word [TEXT] into a polished white marble slab with fine gray veins, in classic Roman inscriptional capitals with sharp serifs. Each letter is cut one after another as a V-shaped groove (two sloping walls meeting in a crisp center line) with a few tiny stone chips flying off and a small puff of white dust at the cut. The inside of the grooves is matte and slightly rough compared to the glossy slab. Once the word is complete, a low raking light slowly sweeps across from left to right, so one wall of every stroke is bright and the other in shadow, then they trade places. Finally the slab glides sideways to a fresh blank section and the carving starts again. Calm, monumental, tactile.
