Ransom Note Collage
Every letter is a different cut-out from a magazine or newspaper, slapped onto a notebook page with tape and twitching at a low frame rate. A punk, zine-style collage look for music, fashion and loud social posts.
Prompt · replace [TEXT]
Tool-agnosticSpell [TEXT] in the cut-and-paste collage style of a zine. Each letter is a separate chip cut with scissors from a different printed source: a fat serif on glossy white, a slab on red, blackletter on striped newsprint, a bubbly script in magenta on yellow, a high-contrast didone in white on black, typewriter on manila, a condensed sans on halftone dots, and so on: mismatched sizes, slightly rotated, with irregular cut edges and soft shadows. A few chips are held with strips of translucent tape. Place them on a ruled notebook page with a red margin line. Slap the letters down one at a time with a quick overshoot, then let every chip twitch at 8 frames per second as if re-placed by hand. After a hold, let them peel off and drop out of frame, then loop.
